Vedic Mantras

(From the Katha Upanishad)

Om saha naavavatu

Saha nau bhunaktu

Saha viiryam karavaavahai

teja svinaavadhi tamastu

maa vidvishavahai

Om shaantih  shaantih  shaantih

May we be protected, may we be nourished, may we acquire the capacity (to study and understand the scriptures), may our study be brilliant, may we not engage in trivial disagreements. Om peace, peace, peace

(From the Isha Upanishad)

Om puurnamadah puurnamidam puurnat puurnam udacyate

puurnasya puurnamaadaaya  puurnamevaa vashishyate

Om shaanti  shaantih shaantih

That (Brahman..the unmanifest) is fullness. This (apparent creation, the manifest world) is full.

From fullness this fullness (the manifest world) comes about.

Bringing (out) this fullness (manifest world) from fullness, fullness alone remains.

From the Krishna Yajur Veda)

Om namaste astu bhagavan vishveshvaraaya mahaadevaaya tryambakaaya tripuraantakaaya

trikaalaagnikaalaaya kaalaagnirudraaya niilakanthaaya mrtyunjayaaya

sarveshvaraaya sadaashivaaya sriimanmahaa devaaya namahah

Om. Oh Bhagavan, may this salutation be unto you, who is Lord of the universe, the great God, the three-eyed, the destroyer of the demon Tripura, who is the Sandya time when the three fires are lit, the Rudra that is the fire that consumes the universe, the blue throated one, the conquerer of death, the Lord of all, the ever auspicious one. Salutations unto the glorious great Lord.
