  Mentors and Resources

(With great appreciation and gratitude to all of my teachers and friends who have inspired and mentored me in my own unfolding, and who continue to inspire and challenge me Now.)

                               My early years:

Huston Smith: My spiritual midwife. His class at MIT opened up my heart and mind to the world of spirituality, especially the eastern approaches of Vedanta and Buddhism, which have become my life long passions.

Swami Sarvagatananda: I was blessed with him as a neighbor in Boston, as I spent my college years a few doors down from the Ramakrishna Vedanta Society of Boston. He introduced me to the Bhagavad Gita and simple meditation practice.

Teachers who are my main resources and inspiriations:

Swami Dayananda Saraswati: My spiritual guide and mentor: his brilliance and clarity revealed the awakening process to me and his teachings are my primary source of deepening revelation.

B.K.S. Iyengar: Pioneering genius in hatha yoga and the primary inspiration in my practice,

                                 and his student,

Ramanand Patel: my main yoga teacher for almost 30 years

Jack Engler: My therapist and spiritual brother: an experienced guide through the convolutions of the unconscious as well as the more refined states of consciousness.

Dan Siegel: Pioneering Interpersonal Neurobiologist, brilliant writer, teacher and clear visionary.

Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen: A humble, articulate, somatic genius

Emilie Conrad: a wild outrageous articulate somatic genius

Caryn McHose: my karma twin and teaching buddy

Brian Swimme: Mr. Universe (even more than Arnold!)

Thomas Berry: A beautiful soul and treasured mentor

                               More Spiritual Guides:

Mukesh Desai: the voice of the divine

Adhyashanti: The most articulate voice in Awakening

Lama Surya Das: My favorite ex-baseball playing lama

Sally Kempton: Keeps my heart at the forefront of awareness

Gempo Roshii Merzel: a highly innovative and totally human spiritual teacher

Yoga teachers who nurtured me in my formative years:

Dona Holleman: taught me the role of discipline

Victor Van Kooten: a karma buddy from long ago
